PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Walmart broke ground yesterday on its Hayden Meadows retail center location, a 90,000-square-foot store that will bring an estimated 200 jobs to the Portland area and include a 40,600-square-foot Ecoroof.
The vegetated roof system will be the largest private Ecoroof in Portland and Walmart's second Ecoroof in the country. It will serve to decrease runoff, save energy and absorb carbon dioxide.
Over the next year, the project will generate about 150 contract construction jobs. When the store opens, it will employ approximately 200 people.
The Hayden Meadows Retail Center is located east of I-5 near the Columbia River Interstate Bridge and already includes a Lowe's and a Petco, among other retail businesses. Construction on the new store is scheduled to be completed next fall.
