SENECA, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters are battling a 5,000-acre wildfire burning in eastern Oregon near the town of Seneca.

Roads in the area have closed and fire officials are asking others to stay out of the area due to the Parish Cabin Fire, which was first reported Tuesday afternoon near Forest Roads 15 and 16 in the Malheur National Forest.

Two hikers who set out on a six-day hike in the Strawberry Wilderness Area haven't been heard from yet, but Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said messages have been left on their cell phones and on their car, offering them help out of the area if they need it.

Forest Service crews and deputies already came to the aid of two hunters who were concerned about their ability to make it out safely.

Palmer said he's hoping for good weather conditions overnight so fire crews can make "another big run" at the fire.

For now, however, evacuations remain in order for campgrounds and hunter camps in the area.
