PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Two pieces of the massive dock that washed ashore in Oregon after the tsunami in Japan will be on display at the Oregon Historical Society Museum.
Crews began dismantling the dock at Agate Beach on Aug. 1. It washed ashore near Newport in June.
The Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation said it's one of only five pieces of confirmed tsunami debris to hit the coasts of Oregon, Washington and Alaska.
The historical society's executive director expressed interest in obtaining a piece of the dock for the museum's permanent collection when the removal process began.
"We are proud to be able to apply our unique resources to preserve and protect this fascinating piece of history," said Kerry Tymchuk.
The pieces are two metal boat tie-offs, each weighing around 20 pounds.
They will be on display starting Friday in the "Treasures of the Vault" exhibit that will run through Dec. 30.
Admission to the museum is $11 and is free for OHS members and all people living in Multnomah County, who can provide proof of residency.
The museum is at 1200 S.W. Park Ave., Portland. For more information, go to the OHS website.
