Groundbreaking set for new Hillsboro baseball stadium

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

Will the Yakima Bears become the Hillsboro Bears?

The public will find out during a groundbreaking at the home of the new Hillsboro baseball stadium on Sept. 21.

The team name will be announced at the event.

City of Hillsboro officials, team owners and key stakeholders will all be on hand for the event.

The groundbreaking marks the official beginning of construction on a new 4,500 capacity baseball stadium at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex.

The stadium field will have artificial turf, which will increase its year-round use for other sports including soccer, lacrosse, football and special events.

The facility will also be home to Single-A, Short Season baseball.

The groundbreaking and team name announcement will take place on Field 4 of the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex located at 4450 NW 229th Avenue in Hillsboro.

The public is welcome to attend.
