CORNELIUS, OR (KPTV) -
Three cars were destroyed Monday in a fire that spread through the parking lot of a family Labor Day barbecue.
Guests worked together to move several nearby cars out of the way in a hay field on Tongue Lane in Cornelius as the fire spread, according to witnesses.
No one was hurt.
Firefighters believe one of the cars had a faulty catalytic converter that sparked the blaze.
"It spread really fast," said witness Cerene Adrienn. "They were fully engulfed within three minutes."
An eighth of an acre of grass was burned before crews were able to completely extinguish the fire.
Fire investigators told FOX 12 that the owner of the get-together does not face any charges because they believe the fire was an accident.
The event was very well organized, investigators said. Firefighters arrived on scene very quickly, they added. Guests motioned firefighters to the back of the property, where the fire was burning.
The estimated value of the three vehicles that burned is about $15,000, investigators said.
