Jump for joy - it's the first day of school in many parts of Oregon!
BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -
Thousands of children in Oregon and southwest Washington got an early wake-up call Tuesday morning.
It's back to school at districts across the region. Children from Salem to Clackamas to Beaverton headed back to school.
In Beaverton, parents we spoke with were cautiously optimistic about the new year, given steep budget cuts the school district was forced to make. The cuts included laying off more than 200 teachers and increasing class sizes.
Dave Dennis, a Beaverton father whose son headed back to Cooper Mountain Elementary School, said they have faith and confidence in their school.
Elementary school students and ninth-graders began school Tuesday. Middle and high-schoolers go back Wednesday.
Most students in the Portland Public Schools head back tomorrow as well.
