A new weapon in the fight against breast cancer will soon be available to Portland area women.
Legacy Health Center-Good Samaritan is planning to offer 3-D mammograms to every woman who is a patient at the center.
Doctors say 3-D mammography provides radiologists with a high definition, more comprehensive image of the breast. The technology will allow specialists to more accurately pinpoint the size, shape and location of potential problem areas.
Experts also say 3-D mammography will make it easier to tell whether growths are benign abnormalities or real tumors.
The new 3-D services will be available to patients starting in October.
