Police issue Drano bomb warning in east Multnomah County

FAIRVIEW, OR (KPTV) -

Fairview police issued a warning Wednesday and asked the public to keep an eye out for Drano bombs placed around parks, yards and driveways.

Officers said the culprits may be targeting parks in east Multnomah County. The bombs are usually made in plastic drinking bottles, and when they're picked up or moved, a chemical reaction can cause severe heat and an explosion that could injure or kill someone, police said.

Police said people should not pick up any suspicious looking plastic bottles. Instead, call the Fairview Police Department if a suspicious bottle is found, especially if there's aluminum foil inside and the bottle has been capped.

The non-emergency number in Fairview is 503-823-3333, but police said 911 should be used if a suspicious plastic bottle is smoking.

This isn't the first recent instance of homemade bombs being found around the metro area. Earlier this year, Oregon City police investigated homemade bombs used to blow up mailboxes.
