Horse rescued from the banks of Tualatin River

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A horse is recovering after it was trapped in mud on the banks of the Tualatin River.

Fire crews were called to the banks of the river yesterday after the horse became stuck.

The horse's owner Jennessa Kaiser-Moreno says she felt powerless as she watched her boyfriend's horse Traveller sink and slip into the creek that backs-up Eagle Landing Park in Hillsboro.

"We tried on our own for 10 minutes to get back up the embankment onto solid ground, but he wouldn't move. He just got worse and worse, deeper and deeper in the mud and weaker and weaker by the minute," Kaiser-Moreno said.

Fire crews arrived just in time to keep Traveller from drowning.

Crews were able to wiggle him free from the mud so he could swim to safety.

Traveller was a little tired after the ordeal but is expected to be just fine.

"A big, great thank you. Oh my God, they saved my horse. They saved a member of the family pretty much," Kaiser-Moreno said.
