An Idaho man trying to buy meth accidentally sent a text message to a narcotics detective as he searched for people to join him in a drug buy, police said.
Lewiston police arrested 37-year-old Aaron Templeton, who they said wanted to get the best deal he could by making a bulk purchase of meth.
After a text message conversation, Templeton and the narcotics officer agreed to meet and exchange $150, so Templeton could buy drugs from a supplier and distribute them to buyers who had fronted money.
Just before noon Wednesday, Templeton and a woman pulled into the designated meeting place. Officers in marked patrol cars then responded to contact the suspects.
Meanwhile, police said Templeton continued to send texts, unknowingly to the narcotics officer: "Well that's weird, a cop just pulled up on me so what's up with that?"
Templeton and the woman in the car were both arrested. Police also seized his cell phone that was used to send texts to the narcotics officer.
Officers said Templeton simply sent the text message to the wrong number.
He faces a charge of conspiracy to deliver meth.
