JEFFERSON, OR (KPTV) -
An 18-year-old man was hit by a train in Jefferson Friday.
It happened at 4:40 p.m. near Hazel Street.
Deputies said Jesus Bearden of Salem was walking along the railroad tracks after leaving a friend's house.
He told investigators he was listening to his iPod with the music turned up very loud and did not hear the train coming.
A southbound Amtrak train was traveling 45 miles an hour when the conductor spotted the man on the tracks.
The conductor blasted the train's horn several times, but deputies said Bearden was not aware of the train until it was extremely close.
Firefighters said Bearden landed ten feet to the west of the tracks after being hit by the train.
Bearden was taken to the hospital with possible fractures and internal injuries.
