GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A group of young baseball players from Gresham were officially welcomed home Friday evening after competing on the world stage.

The community held a parade on Main Street to congratulate their team for making it to the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania last month.

"It's just incredible to see everybody out here, rallying together to welcome these boys back," said Sarah Meckel, a mother of one of the players.

A few hundred people lined Main Street and cheered the team on before gathering at the team's baseball field for a ceremony. Although the team came home from the Little League World Series defeated, their team spirit is still strong.

"Even though we lost it was still fun," said team member Christian Turner.

The All-Star National team from Gresham won the Northwest Regional Championship last month, defeating a team from Idaho 8-4. The win secured the squad from Gresham a spot for the first time in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

The team's manager thanked the community and local business for helping to raise more than $30,000. The money was used to send the players and their parents on the trip.

"I thought it was pretty awesome for everyone to come out and cheer the guys on," said Ron Dowell, who watched the parade.

The team gathered on its baseball field to sign autographs and meet with fans following the parade.
