Deputies: Endangered baby safe, mom arrested in Aloha

ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -

A baby considered by Seattle-area detectives to be in danger was found safe with her mother in Aloha early Monday morning.

Washington County deputies said they received an anonymous tip and found 33-year-old Trina Curry and her 7-month-old daughter at an apartment on SW Alexander Street.

Curry wasn't cooperative with police, a sheriff's spokesman said, and initially wouldn't let them take the baby. Deputies then arrested her on charges of interfering with a peace officer and resisting arrest.

According to court documents, when deputies told Curry her child was going to be taken into protective custody, Curry said, "You can have her when you pry her from my dead body."

She also said, "You'll have to kill me first," according to the arrest affidavit.

Court documents reveal Curry struggled with deputies, resisted arrest, yelled, screamed and eventually collapsed on the floor before she was carried on a stretcher to a patrol car.

The baby wasn't hurt in the ordeal and was taken into protective custody.

King County Sheriff's detectives said Curry gave birth to the child back on July 17. She gave the hospital a fake name, and when officials learned her real name, they learned she had seven other children removed by Child Protective Services because of abuse, neglect and mental health issues, police said.

When King County authorities issued an alert to media, they said Curry may have been with the baby's father, 39-year-old Quandra Powell, who has two felony warrants out for his arrest.  He was arrested late Monday afternoon, according to a Sheriff's spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, Curry, is due in Washington County Court on Tuesday.
