BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -
A woman who didn't want her boyfriend to know she was playing video poker falsely reported to police that she was the victim of a carjacking and attempted sexual assault, police said.
Dora Tovar, 32, now faces a charge of initiating a false police report.
Officers started to investigate just before 3 a.m. on Friday after Tovar told them she stopped her car at the intersection of Northwest Cornell Road and 113th Avenue.
She told police that a man walked in front of her car and then got into her vehicle before he displayed a knife and told her to start driving. As part of her story, she said the man threatened to rape her before she was able to grab the keys and run away.
Police officers responded and searched the area with a K-9 based on her report.
In the hours and days that followed, detectives learned Tovar wasn't at the location she said she had been just prior to the alleged incident. In fact, video showed she was playing video poker during the time she told police she was held against her will.
Tovar later admitted she filed the false police report so her boyfriend wouldn't find out she was playing video poker, police said.
A Beaverton police spokesman said Tovar used up valuable resources and caused false alarm in the community.
