Lawsuit filed over north Portland police shooting

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man shot in the stomach during a police operation in north Portland has filed a lawsuit against the officers who shot him.

The law firm of Creighton & Rose announced the lawsuit today on behalf of Adalberto Flores-Haro.

He was shot in March while Portland Gang Enforcement Team detectives served a high-risk search warrant on North Woolsey Avenue near Fessenden Street.

His attorneys said he survived after spending weeks in intensive care.

He said he was home with his wife and young children and saw an intruder in dark clothes lurking in the backyard.

He got his gun that his attorneys said was unloaded in hopes of scaring off the potential intruder.

He stood in his front doorway and demanded they leave his property. That's when his attorneys said they opened fire "without any warning or provocation."

Flores-Haro was shot in the stomach and arm.

His attorneys said police then marched his family out of their home, forcing his kids to step over his bleeding body.

At the time of the shooting, police said, "officers repeatedly identified themselves as law enforcement officers."

A grand jury found no wrongdoing on the part of the officers.

The lawsuit is against the officers who shot him, the city of Hillsboro and Washington County.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office Tactical Team was assisting the Portland Gang Enforcement Team in serving the warrant that night.

Flores-Haro and his family have also filed a tort claim notice against the city of Portland.
