Anthony Fontana, 23, of Vancouver, was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of rape of a child in the first degree.
The Vancouver Police Department said Fontana accepted the plea agreement Friday. Upon his release from prison, Fontana will be under lifetime supervision from the Washington State Department of Corrections and will be required to register as a sex offender.
According to a statement released by police Monday, the investigation into Fontana's crime began in August 2011 with an anonymous tip to Washington's Child Protective Service hotline. Police said the caller provided little information but indicated possible sexual abuse of a child under 1-year-old.
The abuse was alleged to have been broadcast on the internet via webcam.
Further investigation led authorities to Fontana in February 2011. Detectives arrested him after they say he admitted to the crime.
The investigation also led to a search warrant being served in Pennsylvania at a location investigators said was actively trading and possessing images of children being sexually exploited.
