PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries has released a series of maps showing more than 8,000 landslides in the Portland metro area.
The 17 maps cover areas from east of Troutdale to Cornelius and from Sauvie Island to Wilsonville.
The agency used a laser-based mapping technique called lidar to accurately map landslides over 83 square miles in just seven years.
It would have taken longer with older mapping techniques.
The maps can be purchased on CD-ROM for $15 each from the Nature of the Northwest Information Center, 8100 N.E. Oregon St., Suite 965, Portland.
For more information call 971-673-2331.
