Former booster club treasurer accused of stealing

STAYTON, OR (KPTV) -

The former secretary and treasurer of the Stayton High School Booster Club is accused of stealing from the club.

Richard Morley was a long time school board member in the North Santiam School District, but now he faces a series of charges.

He faces six counts of first degree theft (class C felonies) for crimes that happened between Jan. 10, 2007, and June 30, 2010.

Morley also faces one count of aggravated theft (class B felonies) plus two counts of misapplication of entrusted property (class A misdemeanors) for a crimes between Oct. 7, 2010, and Sept. 30, 2011.

He will be arraigned on Friday.

The Oregon Department of Justice continues to investigate.

A class B felony is punishable by a maximum prison term of 10 years and a fine of $250,000.  A class C felony is punishable by a maximum prison term of five years and a maximum fine of $125,000.  A class A misdemeanor is punishable by a maximum jail term of one year and a maximum fine of $6,250.
