PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Investigators are looking for a hit-and-run driver who crashed into a 21-year-old woman at a north Portland intersection.

Police said it happened about 11 p.m. Monday near the intersection of North Columbia Boulevard and North Bank Street. Witnesses told FOX 12 they heard a loud noise and came out to find another woman screaming that her cousin had been hit by a vehicle.

Dispatchers said the woman, who police identified as 21-year-old Teairra Benjamin, was found lying face down in the street.

Witnesses said they called 911 and then tried to keep other traffic from running over the woman.

"We see the traffic coming and it was scary, a big truck was coming down," said Jesus Gutierrez.

Officers said Benjamin survived the crash, but they said she had "traumatic head injuries." She's being treated at a Portland hospital.

A witness told police the hit-and-run suspect was driving a black, smaller SUV and was heading westbound on Columbia Boulevard when he or she struck Benjamin.

Traffic investigators found the suspect's vehicle parked in an apartment complex west of the crash scene.

No arrests have been made and police want to hear from anyone who may have information about the crash or the identity of the driver. Anyone with information can email crimetips@portlandoregon.gov.
