Trailer found near scene
ST. HELENS, OR (KPTV) -
Someone tried to break into a storage building at the burned down Les Schwab Tire Center in St. Helens.
Police believe a small utility trailer found abandoned on the side of the road may be a key piece of evidence in this case.
Officers responded to an alarm at Les Schwab, 58405 Columbia River Hwy., at 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
The building burned down in a massive fire on Aug. 24.
Police said a rear door to a storage building had been nearly forced open. Officers believe the would-be burglars took off when the alarm went off.
Officers then found a trailer on the side of Division Road, just off Highway 30.
It has a flatbed that is 4 feet wide by 8 feet in length. It is a faded red color with a 2-inch ball style hitch.
The rear of the trailer was sticking out into the roadway and investigators said it was clearly dumped in a hurry.
Officers also found drops of fresh motor oil at the scene, indicating the tow vehicle may have experienced some mechanical issues.
If you know anything about the trailer or this case, call police at 503-397-1521.
