PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Fire investigators are working to determine what started a fire that destroyed a shed in NE Portland. The two-alarm blaze began around 9:30 Tuesday night on the corner of E. Burnside and 99th Avenue.
The Portland Fire Chief called for extra resources to make sure the fire didn't spread to the business next door, Printing Today.
Fox 12 spoke with the owners of the shed. They say they heard what sounded like two people talking and pulling something. By the time they got up to see what was going on, the shed was on fire.
The owners believe squatters may have gotten inside and possibly started the fire. Fire investigators have neither confirmed nor denied that claim at this point in their investigation.
When engines arrived on scene, crews cut holes in the roof for ventilation as they sprayed water on the flames and nearby buildings.
About a dozen employees were safely evacuated from Printing Today as a precaution. Part of the building was charred, but the business did not suffer extensive damage.
The shed was completely destroyed.
The investigation will continue Wednesday morning.
