PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man arrested for a 1996 cold case was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

David McDonald pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter with a firearm and no contest to attempted aggravated murder with a firearm. He was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison.

Police said he shot and killed Michael Yeggins, 22, in Woodlawn Park on July 11, 1996.

No arrests were made immediately after the shooting, but the Cold Case Unit picked it up again in 2007.

In 2011 a grand jury indicted David McDonald on murder charges. He was already in prison for a conviction of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He will be sentenced for this case on Oct. 4.
