HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

Professional baseball will soon have a new home in Hillsboro.

The city of Hillsboro broke ground Friday on a new Single-A baseball stadium on Northwest 229th Avenue.

Dozens gathered Friday morning for the event to begin construction on the $15 million "Gordon Faber Recreation Complex."

The city signed a 20-year contract in June with a team relocating from Yakima, WA. Hillsboro will own the 4,500-seat stadium, which will be paid for with full faith and credit bonds.

The city will also get $150,000 in rental payments each year from the baseball club, which will increase over time.

"It is about the baseball, but it's also about having a gathering place in your community where you can bring your kids, you can bring your family, you can come as friends," said K.L. Wombacher, the team's general manger. "You can sit in the most beautiful weather in the country in July and August, have a hot dog, have a cold beer. It's really going to be an amazing, amazing addition to your community."

The franchise is currently working to come up with a team name and logo.

A decision is expected in two or three weeks.
