Beef recall at stores in Oregon, Washington

Posted: Updated:

The United State Department of Agriculture issued a recall notice for raw boneless beef trim products imported from Canada.

Meat from the plant tested positive for E. coli earlier this month.

The agency's Food Safety and Inspection Service said the products were distributed to stores where they may have been further processed into ground beef, hamburger patties, beef jerky and pastrami.

The USDA recall list includes Safeway stores in Oregon, Washington and Montana, along with other retail outlets in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri.

Albertsons is also recalling a number of ground beef products sold at stores in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, because of the risk of E. coli contamination.

No illnesses have been reported.

The grocery chain, owned by Supervalu Inc., said the move follows an expanded recall by XL Foods Inc. for the ground beef products imported from Canada.

The recall includes 1-pound fresh ground beef patties, 1-pound fresh ground beef chub, and 3-pound fresh ground beef chub, all with the Albertsons store label.

The products were sold between Sept. 3 and Sept. 21 in all Albertsons stores in Washington and Oregon, as well as three stores in Northern Idaho: Coeur d'Alene, Hayden and Lewiston.

Customers should return any of the recalled products for a refund or replacement.

Save-A-Lot stores in Washington and Oregon have also issued a recall for a variety of beef products imported from Canada.

The list of Save-A-Lot recalled products is available online at the store's website.

Fred Meyer stores are also recalling beef products. That recall list is available online at the Fred Meyer website.
