Assault guilty plea leads to prison sentence

SHERIDAN, OR (KPTV) -

A man who assaulted his wife, leading to a standoff with investigators in Sheridan, will spend nearly six years behind bars.

Rajeed Carriman was arrested in December 2011 after deputies were called to a domestic disturbance at his home.

They entered the home and found a woman bleeding from her ear and neck. She told investigators that her husband, Carriman, caused the injuries and left through the back door with a knife.

Deputies said he then swam across the river and there was an hour-long standoff before taking the suspect into custody.

Deputies said he was carrying two knives at the time.

Carriman pleaded guilty to the charge of assault in court Monday. Other charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.

He was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison.
