PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland Trail Blazers founder Harry Glickman will be honored this week by the Oregon Historical Society. OHS will formally recognize Glickman's career accomplishments at the fourth annual History Makers of Oregon Dinner on Thursday, Sept. 27.
Glickman founded the Portland Trail Blazers in 1970 and helped shape the 1977 NBA Championship team. He also helped the Blazers set an all-time professional sports record of 814 consecutive sellouts. He served as the team's executive vice president, general manager and president until he retired in 1994. Prior to founding the Trail Blazers, Glickman founded the professional hockey team, the Portland Buckaroos, in 1960.
Glickman graduated from the University of Oregon and served in the armed forces. He was also inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
Gerry Frank, Kathryn Harrison and Norma Paulus will also be honored at Thursday's dinner. The award is given annually to contemporary individuals who have made a significant impact in their field of work or service during their lifetime.
