LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -

Court documents released Monday revealed details of what may have happened hours before a Lake Oswego man was killed at this home.

The district attorney's office said Erik Meiser broke into two places on the morning he is accused of killing 57-year-old Fritz Hayes.

The first, a home on Atwater Lane, is within 2 miles of Hayes' home.

The other location is a martial arts school on State Street, where the owner found his glass door shattered and one of his practice swords missing when he showed up on the morning of Sept. 17.

Burglary victim Rob Bascue said the weapon doesn't have a sharp edge, but could still be dangerous. Court documents said Meiser was armed with a dangerous weapon when he killed Hayes, but detectives haven't confirmed it was the sword from Bascue's school.

"It's absolutely horrible," he said. "My heart goes out to the family of the victim. I mean, what a horrible thing to have happen."

Jennifer Limbaugh, who owns a gym next to the martial arts school, said detectives have visited the building every day for the past week, gathering as much evidence as possible.

She said the presence of a murder suspect near her business sends a chill down her spine.

"That could have been my husband. I feel bad enough for Maggie as it is, but to think of it in terms of my own home, my own family, it scared the living daylights out of me," she said.

Meiser faced a judge for the first time in Oregon on Monday. He faces charges of aggravated murder, burglary and robbery.
