Pearl District among hippest hipster neighborhoods in U.S.

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

One of America's hippest hipster neighborhoods is in Portland.

Forbes Magazine ranked the Pearl District as the fifth best hipster neighborhood in the U.S.

The magazine compiled its inaugural list based on criteria like coffee shops per capita, the availability of food trucks and farmers markets, as well as the amount of people who work in artistic occupations.

The Pearl scored high marks for having the second-highest concentration of coffee shops among the neighborhoods on the list.

The area's art galleries also earned a mention, as did the Pear District hosting the latest season of MTV's The Real World.

However, the article did note that some local hipsters are turning their backs on the Pearl and opting for less costly living on Mississippi Avenue and the Alberta Arts District.

Forbes selected Silver Lake in Los Angeles as the country's top hipster neighborhood, followed by the Mission District in San Francisco, Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY and Wicker Park in Chicago.

You can check out the whole list at the magazine's website.
