SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A family of Willamette University alumni hoping to remain anonymous has offered to donate millions to the university toward the renovation of the Lestle J. Sparks Center.

The family is offering to match up to $3 million in donations.

The Sparks Center is the university's athletic facility. This year, 60 percent of first-year students were high school varsity athletes, and most undergraduate students participate in varsity, intramural or club sports, or fitness activities and classes.

"This gift supports an important part of our community's well-being," said Dave Rigsby, athletic director.

The Sparks Center was built in 1974. Renovations will begin as soon as the University is able to raise matching funds.
