CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A man accused of taking copper wire from street lights in Clackamas County is behind bars.

Clackamas County deputies said Nicholas Richmond cut several wires attached to streetlights along the bike path bordering Interstate 205.

After deputies responded to a report of a man cutting wires Tuesday at 1:30 a.m., they chased him into some nearby woods and found Richmond buried in some blackberry bushes.

They had to chop through the blackberry bushes in order to reach him, and Richmond continued to hide in the bushes until a K-9 bit him, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies said the wire he took was only worth between $30 and $40, but the damage will cost about $600 to repair.

Richmond, 24, is from Oregon City.
