Deputies: 15-year-old driver hits and kills motorcyclist in Sherwood

SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies say a 15-year-old driving a Chevy Suburban hit and killed a motorcyclist in the back roads of Sherwood on Thursday night.

It happened around 7:15 on Southwest Roy Rogers Road just south of Southwest Scholls-Sherwood Road.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Tyler Rutherford's Suburban veered off the road, then overcorrected into an oncoming motorcycle ridden by 66-year-old Dale Smith.

Smith, from King City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators closed Roy Rogers Road for about four hours to complete an investigation.

Deputies said Rutherford did have a valid Oregon instruction permit at the time of the crash. There was a licensed driver and another passenger in the car with the driver.

The driver and two passengers were not hurt.
