A property owner in western Skamania County made a grisly surprise while bulldozing brush Sunday afternoon.
Skamania County deputies said Friday the owner found human remains.
After a four-day site excavation at the property off Turk Road, the remains were sent in for forensic work in an attempt to determine the identity and sex of the person, investigators said.
The manner of death has not been determined.
"We cannot stress enough the need to not jump to any conclusions on the identity nor the manner of death in this investigation" stated Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Bond. "We still have further investigation before we can finalize this case."
"We anticipate that we will have further information to release on this case within a week" stated Undersheriff Dave Cox.
"Those that were involved with the examination of the brush covered scene did a miraculous job of recovering evidence that was crucial to this case, and we are very thankful for their assistance," he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
