Timberline Lodge celebrates 75th anniversary

Posted: Updated:
Mt. Hood, OR (KPTV) -

It's the diamond jubilee for the queen of Mt. Hood, Timberline Lodge turns 75 today.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt first traveled to Mt. Hood on September 28th, 1937 to dedicate its grand opening.

Timberline was built during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration. The WPA was a special program that put hundreds of Oregonians, and millions across the country, to work during America's worst financial crisis.

In honor of the milestone, the Postal Service is issuing two collectible postmarks in recognition of Timberline Lodge's 75th year. They will be available by mail through late October.
