Don't get stuck in Interstate Bridge traffic this weekend

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

All southbound lanes of the Interstate Bridge will be closed on Sept. 28 and Sept. 29, from 11 p.m. on Friday until 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Southbound drivers heading from Washington to Oregon can take SR 14 east to Interstate 205 and then go south across the Glenn Jackson Bridge and west on Interstate 84 back to Interstate 5.

Drivers heading from Oregon to Washington will not be affected as all lanes on the northbound bridge will stay open.

During the southbound closure, a contractor will remove scaffolding from the south tower used last week to repair a counterweight, while Oregon Department of Transportation crews perform maintenance and the Washington Department of Transportation crews repair a damaged guardrail north of the bridge span.

The bridge closure is necessary to protect drivers from falling equipment and to place equipment on the roadway.

From 11 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, crews will close the left and center lanes of the southbound span of the bridge to continue removing the scaffolding.
