PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight at a northeast apartment complex. The suspect was later shot by police after crashing his truck.
According to a Portland Police spokesman, at 3:54 a.m. officers from east precinct responded to the Hathaway Apartments at 3320 Southeast 134th Avenue on a call of shots fired.
They arrived to find a man had been shot. The victim was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition. He has not yet been identified.
Police then chased the suspect, who had fled in his truck. The truck traveled at a high rate of speed, and lost control at Northeast 148th and San Rafael, where he crashed into a fence.
According to police, at some point at the crash scene a police officer fired at least one shot at the suspect. After he was shot, the suspect refused to comply with police commands, and a Special Emergency Response Team, or SERT, was activated.
Police say SERT was eventually able to take the suspect into custody. A firearm was found and was confiscated. The suspect was then transported to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening wounds.
Detectives are continuing to process both scenes. The Independent Police Review Division and Internal Affairs are investigating the shootings as well.
