A bizarre standoff that unfolded on the roof of a Hazel Dell hotel ended peacefully Saturday evening.
Deputies arrested 41-year-old Angel Torres-Reyna for arson after he allegedly torched his second-floor room at the Quality Inn on Highway 99 around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
When firefighters arrived, they found Torres-Reyna on the roof and thought he needed assistance.
Firefighters raised two ladders to the roof, but Torres-Reyna kicked them away.
Clark County Sheriff's deputies began to negotiate with Torres-Reyna, who refused to cooperate with negotiators and threatened deputies.
Torres-Reyna eventually got down off the roof around 8 p.m. and was placed under arrest.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to other hotel rooms.
Investigators said The Red Cross provided the hotel room for Torres-Reyna on Thursday after he was displaced by another fire at his apartment complex.
