PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Arizona saw 17 dust storm warnings in 2012, with 14 of them occurring during the Monsoon, which ends today, the National Weather Service said.

The warnings spanned the weather service's entire County Warning Area, including Southeast California.

The Phoenix metro area, south Phoenix and the east Valley had nine days with dust storms. Those dates were: Feb. 27, May 9, June 16, June 27, July 21, July 23, Aug. 5, Aug. 11 and Sept. 6, according to NWS records.

Dust storms in the West Valley occurred on six days: June 16, July 28, July 29, Sept. 6 and Sept. 9, the NWS said.

Pinal County had nine days of dust storms: May 9, June 16, June 27, July 21, July 22, July 31, Aug. 11, Sept. 2 and Sept. 6.

Yuma and Southeast California had two days: July 21 and Aug. 13.

As far as extreme flooding goes, one of the worst monsoon days was July 31, when Anthem saw 1 1/2 inches of rain in 40 minutes. Maricopa County officials said the deluge in Anthem was a one-in-1,000-year rain catastrophe. Flood district experts said the weather system delivered 90 minutes of very heavy rainfall, with more than 5 inches of rain falling during the period, damaging homes and ruining landscapes.

On July 29, 2-year-old Dylan Brown, of San Tan Valley, drowned when he fell into a flooded wash.

At least eight people had to be rescued from cars stranded in rushing waters near Avondale Lane and 173rd Avenue during a storm on Aug. 16.

Another monsoon-driven storm on Sept. 7 flooded at least seven homes in Mesa.

The monsoon season began June 15.

Meantime, as the calendar flips to October, above normal temperatures are expected through mid-week. Highs in Phoenix will generally be in the low 100s. Little or no rain is expected, forecasters said.
