A man on a motorcycle was killed Sunday on Highway 99W in Benton County after a collision with a van.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office said it happened at 12:45 p.m. Sunday when a van lost control and crossed the center line near milepost 95.

Investigator said the driver of the van, Veronica Diaz, 28, of Corvallis, was going south but turned sideways into the northbound lane.

A motorcycle driven by Kenneth Carroll, 72, of Eugene, crashed into the driver side of the van. He was thrown from his motorcycle into a ditch on the east side of the highway.

Deputies said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Diaz's husband, Jose Gutierrez, 31, was in the van, along with her three children between the ages of 4 months old and 10 years old. They were treated and released at the scene.

Investigators said there is no initial evidence that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.

A car behind the motorcycle being driven by a 17-year-old girl went into a ditch to avoid the initial crash.

The investigation is continuing in this case.
