A Portland man accidentally shot and killed his father on a hunting trip in northeastern Oregon.
They were hunting Saturday about 25 miles north of Wallowa. It was there that John Rydquist, 39, and his father, Michael Rydquist, 62, had set their sights on the same deer.
Investigators believe that after taking a shot from a crouched position, the elder Rydquist moved in between the deer and his son. Observing that the deer did not appear to go down, the son also took a shot, but couldn't see his father in the line of his sight. It was then that he accidentally shot his father, and he died at the scene.
Police believe John Rydquist's vision was obstructed because he was looking through the sight of his weapon.
Investigators have not filed criminal charges against the son.
But deputies said John Rydquist had two warrants out for his arrest for DUII, so he was booked into the Union County Jail.
