CAMAS, WA (KPTV) -

Camas police are receiving numerous calls about bear sightings at Lacamas Park.

On Sept. 25, police said a bear was spotted in the 331-acre forested park on the southeast part of the city.

The sighting happened before the start of a high school cross country meet that typically runs through the park. The school decided to move the race to an alternate location.

Tammy Tidland snapped a photo of the bear on Sept. 26. She said they got within about 20 feet of the animal before it took off into the trees.

The bear was seen again on Tuesday, just after the start of another cross country meet at Lacamas Park. The runners were stopped and the race was again moved to a new location.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is working on the issue. The agency said it's not uncommon for bears to migrate to lower elevations during this time of year.

If you see a bear, you can call the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife at 360-696-6211.
