PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A group opposed to adding fluoride to Portland's water supply said they have the votes necessary to put it up for a vote.
The organization called Clean Water Portland said they have gathered more than 20,000 signatures and hope to get to 30,000 by next Friday's referendum signature deadline.
The group released a statement saying by going for 30,000 signatures, they will ensure a solid safety net for any signatures that turn out to be invalid because the signer was not a registered voter in Portland.
Portland's City Council approved a plan last month to add fluoride to the city's water supply with the goal of fighting tooth decay.
