Strong winds wreak havoc across Portland area

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Strong wind gusts are causing power outages, highway closures and challenging fires in the Portland metro area.

In the Gladstone area, a falling tree slammed onto a pickup truck on Highway 99E. There were no significant injuries to the people inside the truck. Crews had to shut down the highway to clean up the mess.

In Washington County, a tree crashed down onto power lines, causing a fire along Highway 26 near Staley's Junction. The highway is closed in both directions while firefighters try to put out the fire.

A downed power line also caused a fire on Hayden Island, where crews battled a two-acre wildland blaze.

In addition, there were lane closures on Barbur Boulevard in southwest Portland where a tree fell, and Portland General Electric repair crews scrambled to repair power to 8,000 customers.
