Portland Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a blaze at an apartment located above a business on Southeast Hawthorne.
Fire crews responded at 2:22 a.m. to the home at 4033 Southeast Hawthorne. They arrived to find heavy flames coming from the three-story structure's single apartment.
They quickly ventilated the apartment and removed what they call "deadly and flammable" fire gases. It took firefighters about a half hour to get the fire under control.
The lone resident of the home was not injured, but has been displaced.
A monetary damage estimate has not been released.
