A helicopter contracted by the Oregon Department of Forestry made an emergency landing in a wooded area north of Medford, Oregon. The pilot was returning to Grants Pass after a firefighting mission Sunday afternoon when the incident happened.
Department employees were in contact with the pilot throughout the ordeal and sent a crew to locate the man in the woods about 15 miles north of Medford. The pilot was the only person onboard and was not injured in the landing.
"Safety is our absolute priority, and we're very grateful that no one was hurt," said Dan Postrel, the department's public affairs director.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what went wrong that prompted the emergency landing.
