EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

U.S. Marshals are trying to track down a suspected predatory child molester from San Diego.

Investigators say Frederick Cecil McLean fled Southern California eight years ago. The U.S. Marshals believe his crimes are heinous enough to have earned him a spot on their "15 Most Wanted" fugitive list in 2006.

Investigators said they have identified 17 victims of McLean. One of them, now an adult, said he assaulted her more than 100 times starting when she was 5 years old.

Authorities said McLean gained access to many of his victims through his leadership position in his local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses near San Diego.

Now they believe McLean is most likely in Eugene, according to a report in The Register-Guard.

Authorities won't say what makes them believe McLean is in Oregon, other than he sent relatives a package from Eugene in 2005 and they have developed many other leads since then.

McLean is a mechanic by trade so investigators believe he may be working as one. They also say he may have assumed a new identity and be using an alias.

McLean is a white man, 58 years old, 5'11" tall and 170 pounds. He has hazel eyes and brown or possibly gray hair.

He is considered armed and dangerous and possibly suicidal.

There is a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of McLean. If you know anything about this case, call the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-800-336-0102.
