Busy week scheduled for Light Rail expansion project

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Beginning today, Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project construction will impact traffic in southwest Portland.

Traffic in the South Waterfront area will be impacted by the placement of 28 massive girders. The impact will include street closures and turn restrictions.  In addition, the Naito Parkway Exit from Interstate 5 Northbound will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Portland streetcar service will also be suspended in the area and replaced by shuttle buses today and Friday.

Another project in the same area will also affect traffic beginning today and continuing through Nov. 2. This project involves the reconstruction of the intersection of Southwest Lincoln Street and Southwest Fourth Avenue. While the work is under way, only local access will be allowed between Southwest First Avenue and Southwest Fourth Avenue.

The project will also require turn restrictions and some buses will be re-routed.
