Portland seeks 'cultural ambassador'

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The city of Portland is looking for a cultural ambassador.

Mayor Sam Adams and the Regional Arts & Culture Council announced a new position of creative laureate.

The person picked for the position will serve as an advocate to the creative community in Portland. The laureate will use the position and office of the mayor as a platform to inspire and promote and inspire organizations, businesses and individuals.

A person to fill the position will be selected annually to serve a one-year term.

Nominees are expected to have distinguished themselves in any of a broad range of creative practices, including visual and performing arts, literary arts, architecture, film, culinary arts, gaming, photojournalism, technology, craft and folk traditions, woodworking, design, music or fabric arts.

The nominees should be recognized as having made significant, visible contributions to their field and the community.
