PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A man was hit and killed by a garbage truck outside the Clackamas Town Center mall Tuesday morning.
It happened at 10:30 a.m. on the north side of the mall near the movie theater. Investigators said Richard Luckado, 68, was on the sidewalk as the Allied Waste Services dumpster truck backed up toward him on a service corridor road. Trucks must cross the sidewalk to enter the road.
Witnesses said the truck driver, who authorities identified as Clay Faulkner, was backing up and then slammed on his brakes. Security workers quickly ran out and roped off the scene. Rescuers tried CPR at the scene, but Luckado, of Estacada, died at the scene.
The truck driver is cooperating with the investigation, sheriff's deputies said.
