A man accused of slashing a convenience store clerk with a knife is behind bars in the Multnomah County Jail.

According to Portland police, 35-year-old Jerome Bond attacked a store clerk at the Shop 'N Save Market on Southeast Foster Road Monday morning.

The 54-year-old victim, Heeson Lee, told officers that the suspect walked into the store, came behind the counter and slashed her with a knife in the chest, police said.

The victim ran out of the store and the suspect chased after her, but once outside he took off southbound on Southeast 77th Avenue, detectives told FOX 12.

Officers searching the area found Bond at Southeast 74th and Insley Street and took him into custody.

Police noted that Bond appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine, investigators said.

Lee is expected to fully recover from her injuries, which were not serious.

Bond faces charges including attempted assault, assault, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.
