Police precinct reopens to public

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A police precinct once closed for budget cuts is now up and running again.

Portland Police Chief Mike Reese helped re-open the precinct in Southeast Portland on Thursday.

Lieutenant Wendi Steinbronn will be in charge of 16 officers and four sergeants, who will report to the East Burnside Street precinct.

Steinbronn worked at the substation before it closed back in 2009. She believes this time around, having the lobby open to the public will help officers connect with the neighborhood more and allow them to speak with community members face to face.

Two desk clerks should be in place within a few days, Steinbronn said. She anticipates having the lobby open to the public in about a week.
